Florida History during the War Between the States

Florida served a significant purpose in the War Between the States.  She contributed more than 15,000 soldiers in the Cause who served in local home guards, in the Army of the Tennessee, and in many major battles including Gettysburg, Chickamauga, and Nashville.  Floridians contributed valuable supplies further north including cattle and salt.  Tallahassee is the only Confederate capital that was not captured by the Union.
